I had no idea there was a musical. I feel like it would be cheesy as hell. I loved the book as a young’un, and was also obsessed with the movie, but watching it as an (old) adult - it’s kind of like a really overwrought (and that’s saying something) Douglas Sirk movie. I mean, I still kind of love it, but boy, it’s out there.

It's been so long since I read the book or watched the 80s movie that I don't remember much about either. I can see it being overwrought since S.E. Hinton was only 16 when she wrote it.

Yeah, you really have to allow for it being written by a teenager. But Francis Ford Coppola didn’t have that excuse, lol.

Did you watch the complete novel version of the movie?

Changing the music really makes a complete difference. I haven't watched the original since middle school.

See I hated the music in the extended version but I haven’t watched it since I was in college so maybe I’ll feel differently now. Still worth it for the extended scenes though!

The extended version one? I did see that a couple of years ago. And I’ve seen the original one a million times, though probably not in the last 10-15 years. I do genuinely have a fondness for it, but it’s very melodramatic.
