She legit saw the smoke JoJo was making with her version and said "Now here's my moment to shine with my 2012 song!" which is either the most "seize the day" or "cringe" thing, depending on how you look at it.

It'll probably get her some money (not much, bc streaming, but maybe she'll book a performance or two because of the memetic value of the entire thing), so in this economy I don't even blame her

Was she even the one who released Karma? I feel like her song blowing up 12 years later was as surprising to her as to anyone else, though to be honest I haven't been following that closely

No, she never released it. Her label didn't like it and wanted another song to be her 1st single. The other song flopped and she quit music.

All these years later someone played it for JoJo, she liked it and officially released it.
