The Guardian has reported on a recent study that has scientifically proven that modern song-writers are flops.
A team of European researchers analysed the words in more than 12,000 English-language songs across the genres of rap, country, pop, R&B and rock from 1980 to 2020.
The researchers found that lyrics today are more simplistic, more repetitive, angrier, and more self-obsessed than in previous years. One of the authors of the study, Eva Zangerle, also suggests a lot of YOU are basic bitch flops too:
...she emphasised that lyrics can be a “mirror of society” which reflect how a culture’s values, emotions and preoccupations change over time.
