my god just leave people alone unless they're in a good position to chat like waiting at a counter or something

Or at a scheduled event where interacting with fans is appropriate lol

Waiting at a counter is still a bad time imo

I mean sure but like as an example if they happen to be standing there and the opportunity seems good to just say hi and be done is what I mean (like they smile or seem open and you say hi, etc.). just like reading social cues.

otherwise yeah leave people alone

yeah i think in an ideal world there'd be nothing wrong with recognizing someone whose work you really like and giving them a sincere compliment about it, assuming you're in a situation where you don't have to like invade their space to do so

unfortunately we live in a world where everyone views each other as objects, so too many people treat spotting a celebrity in the wild as just an opportunity to get a picture and post about it for clout. and they don't think about whether the celebrity they're approaching is actually in a position to talk to them, let alone actually wants to.

How embarrassing. The only time I've ever approached a celebrity in public was when I was staying in the same hotel as George Takei and we came off elevators at the same time.

It was an absolutely magical moment. Our elevators were opposite each other and they opened at the same time. I smacked my husband's arm and hissed, "That's George Takei!!!"

Like, I am a proud Trekkie. I grew up on Star Trek and I was not going to miss this opportunity. lmao. I walked over to him and just said I wanted to say hi and that I loved his work and activism. He thanked me and we moved on with our lives. lol

Leave people alone, they're not props, you're not the main character.

that's so fucking funny lmao girl how are you not embarrassed. Like no one is looking in your direction in the photo. It'd be so obvious that she isn't concerned with you why would you want a photo like that. You look like a fool, girl.
