This doesn't surprise me. At all. POC creatives should go elsewhere, and by "elsewhere" I mean "literally anyone but NEON."

I just noticed Origin is on Hulu, which I renewed for the month yesterday. Convenient! I don't get intrigued by many movies and I never go to the theater, so I've been waiting for it on streaming. I like the idea of adapting an academic text into a feature film, because I'm a nerd

Are you in the States? It's not on my Hulu. :(

i've often thought that The Mask of Sanity would make for a great miniseries (the chapter names alone - "An Outline of the Problem," "The Material," "Cataloging the Material," and "Some Questions Still Without Answers")

The Gift of Fear would make for a fascinating film but I would actually never want it made because I don't trust men to receive it any other way than dangerously negative.

Clemency was amazing but they did fuck that up. Alfre is so talented.

Alfre should have gotten a BIG push for Clemency - that was a weak year and she’s phenomenal. I haven’t seen it, but Origin was probably set aside because reviews weren’t as good as their other films for this year. And just based on what people were saying re A24 which was promoting Past Lives and Zone of Interest they didn’t have resources to throw behind the Iron Claw, so imagine it’s similar with Neon.

Yeah, I remember the Oscar talk and then it just....disappeared. They did her wrong.

I have a friend who worked for A24 in NY and they're awful with how they treat their people, according to him. He was paycheque-less for 4 months and had to only use Google Voice bc he couldn't pay his cell phone bill, which was pretty low and mostly work related.

Wow! I’m glad I read this because they’ve built a lot of prestige in the industry and are now trying to expand to make big budget films. Like, problems like being an reliable employer aren’t suddenly going to go away.

I’m so tired of businesses “succeeding” on aesthetics and ~vibez. Enough of this!

The Aretha Franklin was a documentary with concert footage shot by Sydney Pollack that struggled for decades to be released. It should’ve gotten so much more attention.

Amazing Grace was SO good, I can't believe it wasn't everywhere on its release and that it's not been getting brought back into conversation with the release of so many big theatrical tour films like Renaissance, Eras and the Stop Making Sense anniversary re-release at the moment.

(Any Australians in this post, SBS OnDemand has Amazing Grace streaming for free at the moment, I highly recommend checking it out!)
