For the 25th anniversary two weeks from today, if I remember I will do an ONTD original with a bunch of random Farscape shit that I didn't post over the past 25 years (although tbh I think I've posted a lot of the major stuff, like the rumored spin-off from 2014 that never happened LMAO).
Since last year was the 20th anniversary of it being canceled, and this October is also the 20th anniversary of The Peacekeeper Wars, there is probably a fair amount of interesting stuff.
I have the one that came out like 15 years ago or so, and I don't watch it to keep it in pristine condition in case it disappears off one of the 50,000 streamers it's on LOL. But since they're still reissuing The 10th Kingdom from 2000 regularly, and that was just a miniseries on NBC, I'm sure there is still cult interest for older stuff warranting rereleases every once in a while. But IDK, let's google...
A variety of purchasing options are available, with the basic set currently retailing for $175.99, a limited version including stickers and a poster for $239.99, and a deluxe edition with stickers, poster, and enamel pin set for $299.99.
The 10th Kingdom…that brings me back. When I was high school, my friends knew how crazy I was for the show, so they had their parents order me the VHS tapes and the book package from NBC for my birthday. It was so kind of them and I still have it saved. I also bought my own copy of the book and beat it up a bit from the many times I spent carrying it around and reading it.
Thank you so much for sharing that information!
They released the series a few years ago and I have those dvds/Blu-rays-I’m at work, so I can’t check to see what version I have-so I was kind of hoping to be able to buy the miniseries by itself and not the show for the second time. 😅
Yeah, I bought Peacekeeper Wars on DVD when it came out which was obviously a loooong time ago.
I think there is a strong crossover between girlies who watched Farscape and girlies who watched The 10th Kingdom LOL! The 10th Kingdom stans in 2024 were also tween/teen girls when it came out.
Understandable. I wish I had been smart and had done so. Especially given how scarce physical media is becoming.
That definitely makes sense. I don’t want to be all “back in my day,” but I feel like there aren’t as many unique and fantastic shows nowadays in comparison.
There is a reason the weird stuff / miniseries like The 10th Kingdom are rare nowadays - The 10th Kingdom and Farscape were both very expensive. I know The 10th Kingdom cost $44 million in 2000 money, which in 2023 would be about $80 million for a 5 part (I think it was 5 parts, lbr I watch it in one go) miniseries that was also a potential backdoor pilot on NBC. Farscape had issues its first season because it was being made the same time as the matrix in Sydney and they had to move around because of soundstage space issues (also not cheap). Companies aren't willing to take that risk nowadays unless it's part of a franchise or a marketable property or Oscar bait, and most weird shit isn't aiming for an Oscar.
That all makes sense. I didn’t realize how expensive The 10th Kingdom was and didn’t know about the issues in Farscape’s first season, thank you for providing that information.
And unfortunately, that’s all very true. If something isn’t immediately profitable, then they don’t want to risk losing money. It’s such a poor artistic mindset though. Especially with the interest in AI and whatnot.
Farscape is an incredible show and I’m glad that we had The Peacekeeper Wars to wrap things up, especially given the ending to season four.
I did a rewatch a few years ago and I kind of want to do it again.
