Fanfic authors are pulling their works and here's why

And it's live! For @WIRED, I wrote about the illegal fanbindings have led to some writers to delete their works recently-and how that connects to the current pull-to-publish wave and the ever-broadening, increasingly contextless sphere of fic readers: https://t.co/qEFk1jspFo

Also i was trying to report stuff on Etsy last weekend. And they do not make it easy. And only the copyright holder/lawyer can report for intellectual property theft

Everytime one listing gets taken down another pops up. So it's not like fic authors can handle all that themselves

If a fic is particularly popular, they don't just sell bound copies. They sell ebooks. Trying to trick people who saw a Tiktok about the fic, but don't know fanfiction is free and can be downloaded to your kindle from AO3. It's gross.

Click "entire work" at the top of the fic page, then click the download button on AO3 and select epub. From there, you can share/send the file to your kindle app. There is also a page on the Amazon site to upload a file to your kindle.

YUP! I've been hearing about it earlier this week that fandom authors are pulling their fics from online because they're being sold on Etsy without their knowledge or permission :/

Honestly...some of those covers are quite nice. It made me consider buying a printed and bound fic from one of my fandoms. Although probably not for $100

You can bind them yourself if you want. There are tutorials online.

I started reading one of those and just couldn't get into it. I can see why they are popular tho, but it's not my thing. However, I still wouldn't pay 100+??? for my fav dramione/drarry fics.

I know I’m a snob but everything about these from the typesetting/typography to the binding is ass.
