I think airplane mode was legit back in the day but no way it's an issue given that wifi on flights exists? but idk

yeah i dont think airplane mode serves an actual purpose anymore other than to save battery since you won't get cell service while in the air

Mythbusters proved this one. Apparently it's not EVERY aircraft, but it can and does interfere with instruments. I think it's probably being phased out at this point, newer planes being built with different systems/parts that won't react.

It's actually so you don't overwhelm cell towers on the ground while flying, but people are selfish so saying it's for safety makes them more likely to turn airplane mode on.
