It's barely a conspiracy theory at this point but mine is: the planned obsolescence of p much all modern electronics is, well, planned, but also integrated into the interests of cell carriers & other parties, not just the actual manufacturers. IE apple plans their shit bugging out & slowing down when it's beneficial to them and also companies like T-mobile. it's so wild how there are a handful of lawsuits about them slowing down phones but nothing concrete that's treated as public knowledge

Also not a conspiracy but in certain dictatures, they're shutting down the cell service around the time of elections' results so that people don't riot when the rigged results are out.

That sounds insane considering the amount of people who no longer have landlines. Well, I guess if you were planning on committing a crime, that would be the best time to do it. :/

this is what I’m using to justify wanting to get into ham radio (my 453636th hobby) to my husband 💀

Oh it's totally beneficial to other parties - a large number of cell plans are you buying the handset on credit, and the cost of the plan includes the interest. They profit massively from first that interest, and then the fact that a lot of people don't immediately downgrade the plan once the handset's paid off and they're back out of the minimum contract period

yeap. my ipad has completely slowed down where there is no reason at all for it to. i can barely browse the internet on it anymore

my mom will hold on her washing machine for dear life lol we have a guy in town that repairs appliances bc of this very reason, you can always call him before giving in and replacing

I figured out iPads were a scam when my in-laws bought me the first one and it turned into a brick once the apps stopped updating. I never understood the point of it anyway, but I was pretty done.

my mom affectionately calls her household appliances "antiques." she finally just got her washing machine replaced because her old one worked still but sounded like a dying hyena. and she didn't give in and buy one, her sister visited and was driven nuts by the shrieking machine that she went to Lowe's and bought a new one for her lol

Same, my mother in law had an ancient washing machine that sounded like a jumbo jet taking off, amongst other problems. We tried persuading her to get a new one.

Eventually it died and she said, why does this always happen to me? Erm it was a million years old and on its last legs

The problem is even repairmen are becoming obsolete so you're forced to buy new appliances as soon as the old ones start breaking down cause there's no one around who knows how to fix things.

There is at least one concrete lawsuit - I just got money from the Apple class action lawsuit that proved just that. https://www.smartphoneperformancesettlement.com/
