I'm from Houston and I found out when I caught my teacher WEEPING in the bathroom. When we all came back to school on Monday, most of my classes were "let's sit in the beanbag chairs and read quietly" classes.

There were vigils all over the Chicago area. People gathering in parks with those big Selena buttons that were all the rage back then, carrying roses (or carnations if they didn't have a lot of money), singing Selena songs and crying, and it was like that in the Mexican AND Puerto Rican neighborhoods too. Selena was a uniter, and was very much loved.
