I know it's always been this way, but I don't get how these people aren't embarrassed going up to accept their meaningless awards.

it’s kinda funny how we’re watching what is essentially a work event for them

It’s their job. If you won an award for your job would you say “no, I cannot accept because people are dying”? You wouldn’t. And if you said you wouldn’t you’d be lying.

Right people are so extra lmao. As if all of us aren't doing meaningless things in all of our lives right now. You can't live your life completely consumed by the horrible shit going on in the world because you WILL be completely and totally miserable 24/7.

and being miserable so often doesn't help anybody. You think you're going to be empowered and ready to help after being besieged by misery 24/7? You won't. You'll be like "what's the point?" Levity helps.

People aren't empowered and ready to help even if they aren't always miserable, either.

I thought we were past the doomscrolling mentality from 8 years ago. Burnout and fatigue are a reality of constantly consume the news media. Entertainment is meant to serve as a distraction from all the horrible, it’s serve a great purpose. ONTD is a meaningless site too but we come back for a reason.

Yeah people always call these awards meaningless regardless of what’s going on in the world. Plus it doesn’t work saying it on this site since all we do is gossip and goof off. We’re not too different from the celebs.

it's not being extra at all, yes you can continue living your life but also be aware of what is happening in the world. I was simply commenting on the extremely different problems people are having right now, the elite squabbling for DRESSES whilst people are literally scrambling to get FLOUR

For once I agree with you. A lot of professions have conventions/award ceremonies during the year where people dress in their finest to applaud the people who have done well, but people see accolades in the art fields as being superfluous, and why? Because unlike other fields it's televised and people can watch it? Because acting (like a lot of the arts) is considered a "fun" profession and undeserving of awards? It's a career for most of these people, and everyone likes to get rewarded for a job well-done and like to cheer on their contempories for a job well done. I'm not sure about SAG, but most of the art guilds date back a couple hundred years because it wasn't considered easy or glamorous back then; it was a TRADE.

Sorry to hijack you comment, but it's a serious pet peeve of mine.

I think the whole concept of award shows for these people is embarrassing and they should be ashamed. Getting an award for some regular ass job in a conference room is not the same.

For the actors I can kinda see where you are coming from. But the entertainment industry employs thousands of other very very hard working people who deserve recognition(and better pay) and its hard for me to project anything negative onto them for being recognized.

Exactly. If anything, don't you own a nice dress? Have not been a bridesmaid, not a prom dress, or fancy funeral attire, nothing at all?
