January 6, 2024 • Since the beginning of January we have seen celebs on the awards campaign hit the red carpets for both nights of the Creative Arts Emmys, the Palm Springs International Film Awards, the Golden Globes, the Governors Awards, the National Board of Reviews Luncheon, the AFI Awards Luncheon, the BAFTA Tea Party, and the Critics Choice Awards. There are also other countless For Your Consideration and magazine events that hopefuls have been attending in droves.
• And the award show pileup doesn't end anytime soon. Emmys are today, the Grammys are on February 4, the DGAs are on February 10, the BAFTAs and the People's Choice Awards are on February 18, SAG is on February 24, the Indie Spirits and the PGAs are on February 25, and the Oscars are on March 10.
• Of course the season is so hectic because of the 2023 strikes, events had to be pushed back. Since the strikes ended though, stylists have been scrambling trying to dress their clients who have been relentlessly hitting the awards circuit to make up for the several months they were unable to promote their work.
• Stylist Zadrian Smith (one half of the duo Zadrian + Sarah) who works with clients like Ariana DeBose is quoted as saying, "the showrooms have been wiped out - people are nervous about not having anything...there have been times in which it's felt like a fashion-show reality challenge."
• Jessica Paster, who styles Supporting Actress hopeful Emily Blunt, says that there are clothes stylists "aren't able to get" and that stylists are being forced to "edit" themselves in order to achieve a look. She also adds that stylists are calling in favors from other stylists in order to get the right dress.
• Barry Keoghan's stylist Ilaria Urbinati says, "I can't get that great head-to-toe look...I'm piecing together and using my editorial stylist eye to create something that's unique in its own way with what I have on hand."
i know i know, these aren't real problems still, thought it was an interesting topic
