Zac Efron broke his jaw back in 2013 when he collided with the corner of a granite fountain in his home while running in socks. The injury was quite serious-even life threatening- and has required that the actor see a specialist and continue with physical therapy in the years since.

As for how the 2013 injury impacted his appearance so many years later, he explained to Men's Health that it related to his masseter muscles overcompensating for the injured muscles in his face, combined with his temporary failure to continue with physical therapy.

An IG account announced this a few days ago but it honest to god looked like they were announcing his death and my heart fell straight out of my ass. I legitimately stopped breathing for a second. Never knew that Zefron’s hypothetical death would make me feel that way.

Anyway good for him. I have a soft spot for him and hope he’s happy. I dragged my VERY reluctant, “I’m too punk for this” best friend to see 17 Again in theaters back in the day and turned her into a temporary stan who laughed through the whole movie. Thanks for the memories, Zac!
