I wish all jobs wouldn't be so GASP if you admit to wanting a job because of the money. "Why do you want this job?" "I have bills." "Great!"

It always kills me when these questions come up in interviews for part-time retail or fast food jobs. "Folding clothes after people wreck the display is my passion." "I really think I can make a difference in this world by flipping burgers after school." "I thrive in an environment where I'm on my feet for 6 hours straight, dealing with rude and entitled people."

Right?? I wanted to set things on fire when my boss told me it wasn’t all about money after I asked for a raise, like I’m not fucking volunteering???? Are you?

Sorry to the recruiters and hiring managers on here (bc I know there are some), but no one cares about your job.

If you have a life, not even you care.

People want to do a reasonable job in safe conditions and leave, not revolutionize filling tacos.

I'm the manager of a retail store and I was just off due to an injury for a month. All I've heard from head office is how my staff isn't trained (most were brand new), they have limited availability, etc.

I sent them an email last night with the starting wages of everywhere in town and asked how they expect me to get good, dedicated workers with open availability for minimum wage when everywhere else in town pays more (and honestly, the jobs all entail less than us!)

I'm sure they will ignore it completely and then go in on my evaluation that I don't have staff willing to do 12 hour days when I was off. 🙄

Thank God I left my staff a note that said don't let them bully you and they listened!

Right? The majority of people are in the range between "thinks their job is okay as jobs go" and "hates their job with the fire of a thousand suns," the answer is always that people got bills.

I'm sure some people LOVE their jobs and are passionate about what they do - including many in the entertainment industry, people who are creative and passionate about bringing their ideas to life and are happy they get to be paid to tell stories and stuff like that. Many people go into their lines of work because they enjoy the roots of it! I enjoyed the hell out of college and grad school learning about things I was passionate about, but lbr, not many people take that same enthusiam far into their careers, especially people like me who had a slight career curve into a somewhat unrelated field from my degrees (albeit I do use skills and knowledge from them, but I studied international relations and political science and now I am a proposal writer and project developer/manager).

I am a professional writer, I have (self) published a novel (tbh me and my cowriter just wrote it to cash in on the romance craze post-50 Shades and I got enough to buy a new laptop which was my goal all along), but man, I am NOT passionate about what I write ( ... )

yeah, I'm one of those lucky people who really does enjoy their job (and I'm also lucky to have a job where I feel that I am making a positive impact on the world), but at the end of the day, I'm there to get paid. and if I won the lottery, I'd still be gone in a heartbeat.

What job do you have, if I may ask? I'm always curious when people legitimately enjoy what they do
