hbomberguy mainly focused on the plagiarism, toddintheshadows's video is about Somerton's blatant and often harmful lies. He's a piece of shit.

So glad Iilluminaughtii's abusive, pro Debt ass is being exposed too.

I watched this after hbomb's video and this dude was basically either stealing content or making shit up. What a loser.

Now he's deleted all his socials and turned off comments on YT. I hope that people remember this.

the Howard Ashman quotes Todd put in this video and corrected are especially galling because DisneyWar directly brings up how Disney specifically dispatched a production unit to New York so Ashman could see through production on Beauty and the Beast and keep working on Aladdin in addition to that correction Todd brings up about Jeffrey Katzenburg arranging for Ashman’s partner to attend/accept the Oscar and give a speech.

Disney never forgot Howard Ashman, and it’s an especially fucked up thing to say in order to big up Bob Iger and his version of the company as corporate allies of the year (especially confusing as to why he credits Bob Iger with so much? just to tear Chapek down?)

There's a lot wrong with the youtube video essay genre. I've never heard of any of these guys but the video essays that get recommended to me are usually poorly researched and poorly constructed while the youtuber acts like their doing some radical analysis. That or they'll just pick the newest tiktok trend and talk about how it's actually ruining society or whatever. Not everyone can be a social critic but for some reason youtube has convinced everyone that they should try???

Yeah, every now and then one will get recommended to me that sounds interesting so I watch it and they are just saying basically nothing.

I’m actually planning on starting an essay channel and I’m glad this happened.
I’ve spent a long time researching my area of interest to see if it was worth covering, and watching different YouTube essayists, and I noticed more than a few people just reading off Wikipedia.
If anything this has been a great reminder to cite my resources, give credit, don’t trend chase too much, and if a miracle happens and the channel takes off, don’t have a private discord or encourage a fan club 🤣

For me, a lot of these videos are a waste of time for reasons like this. Why should I watch a 45 minute video when I could get all of the same information in 30 seconds by reading the Wikipedia entry? There are some videos that were obviously well researched but way too many people make videos that are too long, just regurgitating basic info, etc. Don't give me 5 minutes of facts in a 30 minute video, people!

And yes to citing sources! I am a data person so I haaaaate when videos make all kinds of claims but have nothing to back it up. You got that info from somewhere so receipts or it didn't happen!
