half the stuff built there cost like 100s of lives of unerpaid workers they import and take the passports of, every cultural thing like this is just a ploy to keep power + legitimacy as the world transitions off oil, but the governments and kingdoms over there are all corrupt and dont care about human rights, so once the oil money dries up even a little its gonna be so unstable there, not the mention with temperatures rising or any issues importing fresh water or food etc.
A college professor of mine once likened SA to the South and how they only had slavery to boost their economy and once that was gone it fell and has never fully recovered. He seemed to think Saudi Arabia would have the same issues once our reliance on oil is gone.
