after the last post about usher, i did some researching and i can't look at him the same way again. he cheated on his wife and infected another woman with herpes that he never told her he had, she sued him and he paid her $1.1 million. this was in 2012. then he goes on to cheat on his second wife and infect another woman with herpes that he again never told her about! this was in 2017. she sued him and he settled that lawsuit too. to do this once is bad enough but twice?!

He also filed for divorce from his first wife while she was recovering from a lipo procedure gone wrong & went into cardiac arrest. She found out online. He was of course cheating on her during all of that too.

There should be criminal liability for failing to disclose an STD to a sexual partner. I think there is for HIV/AIDS but idk about other STIs

I think you make good points and I definitely agree about the stigmatization about STDs. As we know, HIV now can be very manageable and with treatment compliance many patients have no detectable viral loads and the infection is therefore not transmissible. There is an argument to be made that such patients should not be required to inform sexual partners of their infection, I know Dan Savage is passionate in this stance. That being said, I do think anyone who has knowledge that they have a contagious, incurable sexually transmitted infection should be obligated, morally and otherwise, to inform sexual partners. There have been many cases of people knowingly passing on HIV to many partners and being held criminally responsible as a result.

Do you not agree that Usher should be financially liable for knowingly failing to disclose his STD to multiple partners?

Hmmmm... I think that if someone is held financially liable, it has to be framed as a violation of consent. Because that's what it is. It isn't the herpes that's the problem (herpes is just a risk you run when having sex with people, given that something like 50% of the adult population has it) it's the fact that if someone point blank asks you about STDs and you lie, you have prevented them from giving informed consent to sex. THAT is the problem
