Matthew Vaughn talks how Halle Berrys treatment lead to him dropping out of X-Men 3

Matthew Vaughn quit directing ‘X-MEN: THE LAST STAND’ after execs wrote a scene to trick Halle Berry into signing on.

“It said, ‘Africa. Storm. Kids dying of no water. She creates a thunderstorm and saves all these children…’ I went, ‘What is this?’ [They said,] ‘Oh, it’s Halle… pic.twitter.com/uQbuMWJqME

I mean Storm should have had a bigger role though? Anyone who knows the comics knows she's one of the most important X-Men. And I'm pretty sure the scene he's describing happened pretty much that way in her first comics appearance. Sounds like she researched the character well.

she def should have had a much bigger role (and she wasn’t the only one…), but the creeps making these movies clearly had their own self insert pet favs to peddle at the expense of the other characters

I actually just rewatched the original X-Men trilogy out of nostalgia this weekend.

X-Men 3 unfortunately still stinks to high heaven, but the first two instalments were so good. The themes and storytelling in particular are so refreshingly complex and mature when compared to the MCU. I don't even want the MCU to touch these characters, actually.

X2 is still one of the best superhero films ever made. The mansion invasion scene is top tier.

Nope, mansion Invasion. Where we first see Colossus. Wolverine goes rampage on the soldiers.

What a shitty thing to do. I remember hearing of Halle wanting more for her character and I think it kinda played off as “diva-ish” in the reporting.

But regardless I’m not surprised, it’s well-known that Halle was NHF Singer’s direction or treatment of the cast and crew.

She infamously said “he can kiss my black ass” in reference to Singer after his careless led Hugh to suffer a concussion. Singer had wanted a certain stunt to be shot but the stunt coordinator warned against saying it would not safe and someone could hurt. Singer was belligerent and wanted the shot. After a few discussions Hugh decided to go through with it to diffuse the situation and keep moving.

Shock shock Hugh ends up falling and getting a concussion. Singer who wanted this shot was not even there when it happen. Iirc he was near some trailer drunk off champagne which only enraged the cast and crew present. I may be misremembering some things but that was the gist of it.

The issue of Halle’s casting aside, that is nasty work on the part of the studios but those shady bastards do this sort of thing all the time. Good on Matthew for not wanting to condone any of that.

I don't find Matthew particularly talented, but he has an impeccable reputation among actors and crew members and is known for making his sets a good place to work.

Hmm I mean he did set up that scene in Kingsman 2 where Eggsy is meant to put a camera up a woman's vagina and Taron Egerton (who is definitely a Matthew Vaughn protege) came out afterwards and said how he was uncomfortable with it. Luckily the actress's boyfriend was on set and he was able to be the hand in the scene. This scene was Vaughn doubling down in response to criticism of the final anal sex scene in Kingsman 1...

Fair enough, I was just speaking of the way crews talk about him and his sets. But this is indeed gross.

Taron still works with him and seems to like it so I guess overall he's okay, but it makes me not trust Vaughn.
