I can't waaaaaaait but even with the new actress who does read a bit younger, when they mention Claudia being made "so young" I just kind of go ????? because they really did not sell Claudia looking too young to exist on her own. Especially since they had her going off to universities in season 1.

Yeah, I didn't buy her as the age the show was telling us she was young, I was like, "But she looks like she could be a freshman in college?"

The scene where she abandoned the childish clothes and dressed up in fashionable young women's clothes and we were apparently supposed to think she looked ridiculous because the women on the street said something like 'she's dressing up in mama's clothes' was baffling tbh.

When she walked out dressed all flapper-like I just thought "wow, makeover glow up! looks great!" then had to rewind the scene when I realized we were supposed to think she looked ridiculous. There were sooo many things they could have done, visually and acting wise, to get this across with the actress being older but they just didn't do them effectively IMO.

This is why I think Rian or whoever is doing this is not actually a very good writer/director/showrunner/whatever. He just makes decisions that are either not very creative ("Who's that mysterious guy?" "It's clearly Armand." ".... Yeah, it's Armand.") or are not followed through on like aging Claudia up but not actually changing anything about her storyline. The only change I think that's really, really worked is Daniel.

I think some of the changes work (I think they overhaul of Louis worked very well) but yeahhh... Claudia is the show's biggest misstep because they aged her up but still pretend that she looks like a little girl. She does not. As you said, you can't keep her storyline the same but have the actress be older and look older.

Every time they imply that she looks young I just get the Truman show "What the hell are you talking about?! Who are you talking to?!" moment in my head.

I think they should have/could have gone the route of using makeup and styling and y'know actual plot points to tell us that she's just a bit too young. Not to the point of being as young as the film or book version obviously, but just too young to pass on her own ( ... )

Yeah that always takes me out a bit as well, especially as we’re already so used to teenage vampires existing in fiction and the look of Claudia fits right in with that, so it doesn’t really work when the show keeps emphasising the Claudia from the books who was turned as a five year old and really couldn’t live on her own or do anything in the world without an adult protector.

Of course I get why they couldn’t exactly cast a very young actress for the show, but still you would think that they would have adjusted her story a little more to reflect casting actresses who look around 17/18 years old, instead of just expecting us to buy that the Claudia on the show is supposed to look like a ridiculously young child
