I think some of the changes work (I think they overhaul of Louis worked very well) but yeahhh... Claudia is the show's biggest misstep because they aged her up but still pretend that she looks like a little girl. She does not. As you said, you can't keep her storyline the same but have the actress be older and look older.

Every time they imply that she looks young I just get the Truman show "What the hell are you talking about?! Who are you talking to?!" moment in my head.

I think they should have/could have gone the route of using makeup and styling and y'know actual plot points to tell us that she's just a bit too young. Not to the point of being as young as the film or book version obviously, but just too young to pass on her own.

There's a line from the Lestat musical that comes to mind, where Claudia at her trial points to one of the female vampires and says "A few more years and I might have had that shape!"

So like... have her try to go to university but get kicked out because she can't pass as an 18 year old. Have people reject getting into relationships with her because she looks too young and can't pass as older. Go the route of the film and make her look awkward in the "adult" clothing, make it clear that she looks unusual in it visually. Etcetc

I can see some points in the show where they vaguely tried this but it wasn't done successfully and they didn't stick the landing. They abandon it as soon as it becomes inconvenient, like Claudia doing just fine on her own when she runs away.
