"When people go to iTunes and listen to my old music, it's so irritating to me because I can't just erase that stuff and start over,"
I feel like that's the issue with most artists who start young (except someone like Fiona Apple who was fucking flawless from the start). I'd probably hate having my teenage/early 20s crap eternalized in public, popular art lol
i'd actually be curious how fiona feels about tidal now. i was shocked to read that sinead o'connor thought a lot of the music on her first album was embarrassing bc she wrote it so young, whereas for me as a listener i marvel at her songwriting ability at that age.
off topic but i've been trying to get "tidal" on vinyl for the better part of 10 years. no lie. i love all of fiona's albums, but "tidal" is especially meaningful since i was a teenager when it came out, and it was essentially the soundtrack to my youth. but it's also notoriously difficult to get on vinyl unless you're willing to shill lots of $$$ because it's been out of press for a long time.
a few weeks ago they randomly announce a repress - i finally snag a copy (!!), and it arrives TODAY which also happens to be my birthday (!!!). do you even know how excited i am???
also yes i wonder what fiona thinks of "tidal" now? it's a flawless record but would be curious...
it's incredible how much people will pay for certain vinyl. i definitely took advantage of that a bit during the pandemic while i was out of work, and regret it every now and then. i actually ordered a repress of lana's ultraviolence a few months back and finally received notice it's shipping, so i'm excited.
yes there were so many times i had "tidal" in my shopping cart from a vendor on discogs and it would have cost me anywhere between $200 - $300. no joke. but i'm a huge record collector and "tidal" is the ONLY GOD DAMN fiona apple album i am missing, and it's probably my 2nd fave after "when the pawn...", so i was seriously considering blowing that kind of dough on 1 record. so glad i never did and just waited but damn the wait was long lol.
vinyl me please announced a repress a few weeks ago! that's the copy that arrives for me today. their pressing of "tidal" is widely regarded as the best version and all the hoity toity record collectors i know say it's one of the best sounding records overall. idk i'm just so excited to blow my walls out to "never is a promise" the minute it gets here
ok it arrived and it sounds PRISTINE. i have a pretty solid audio setup and i was blasting it. it sounded so crisp and flawless. not a single crack, pop, nothing. it sounds like she's in the living. holy shit.
This has given my motivation not just to order the album but to get our record player repaired…it broke during our move this summer but it was easy to put off. Until now!
yess I was gonna say, they just did a Tidal repress! If you got it from vinylmeplease, apparently the pressing sounds amazing, I've seen a bunch of people saying it's a reference vinyl to test new gear because of how good it sounds

i'm actually shocked it took this long for tidal to be repressed. so glad you were able to snag a copy and not break the bank.
