Saw my first film of Beyond Fest yesterday - The Royal Hotel

I liked it a lot. It builds on the same kind of vibes of Kitty Green's first film (The Assistant), but in an entirely different sort of setting. It's a little slight, but definitely worth a watch. And even though I learned months ago that Hugo Weaving was in the film, I'd forgotten and was SHOCKED to see his name in the credits, lol. He just looks so different than Elrond!

Tonight is our second Beyond Fest film - Manhunter (1986), with a Michael Mann Q&A. I've never seen it before, but I love William Petersen, and the Letterboxd rating is decent, so fingers crossed for me!!

The AFI Fest lineup was supposed to come out yesterday, but they postponed the release until today. I'm very curious to see what they're bringing this year, but the festival has been going downhill for years now, so I am not optimistic. It used to be free, and they'd have showings in like six different theaters all day long for a week straight. Now, it's only five days long (four, if we're not including the first day with only one film), they show way fewer films, they don't show anything twice, they get less good stuff, and the screenings cost $20-$30 a piece. Such a bummer.
