Why do so many actors think they can direct? Remember Ryan Gosling's terrible movie? lmao

I had to google because nope, do not remember that at all. Pretty sure there’s a reason!

Not everyone can be Todd Field.

ETA he also benefitted from quitting acting to make In the Bedroom, though.

ETA again don't forget he is also an inventor - he was the child who helped create Big League Chew lmao.

i'm trying to think of a good movie i've seen from an actor turned director and nope. they usually are just vanity projects because they're usually always starring in it as well.

Orson Welles and Ron Howard started off as actors too!

I'd also say Ben Affleck is a better director than actor. Sarah Polley is good at both.

this same film festival saw the premiere of an apparently good actor directorial debut. Anna Kendrick’s movie got raves

Icon Cassavetes, but I don't think he ever fully "turned," rather did both at the same time.

Elaine May too (I’ve got Mikey and Nicky on the brain at all times)

Ayyy. That's the film I was thinking of as I wrote this, although I'm aware he's done more.
