Is it supposed to be a skinny bear or is it malnutrition/starvation? I’m not used to seeing bears so slim and slender/skinny.

They’re weirdly shaped, so most likely it’s at its normal weight.

My internet degree tells me they are smaller and have shorter fur than other species since they are native to tropical rainforests and thus don't have a build that bulks up for winter.

Weirdly enough, raccoons are similar. North American raccoons are massive compared to their South American cousins like the crab-eating raccoon.
