I didn't know all those brands were under a conglomerate.

The Arnault family heads the LVMH conglomerate that owns all the other brands (LV, Céline, Dior, et al).

Was probably the only way some of these brands could survive tbh.

I've never heard of half these names but I thought it was me putting my energies elsewhere instead of high fashion.

Karl Lagerfeld could be a jerk, but I clearly remember him saying the old money (aristocrats in particular) that was pouring money into a lot of these labels was drying up because they bought a lot of couture for their events. Seeing that a lot of young members of royal families in different countries are marrying into relatively new money shows he wasn't wrong about that.
