he got cut off after all of these things came out about him. 21, 25, and 30 are common age for trust funds that have staggered payouts to kick in, which would have before all of this started

Right, but if the trust "paid out," then it's his property and thus subject to whatever calculations the court is using. If the principal assets were still held in trust, then still any trust income given directly to him is his and subject to these calculations. He wouldn't have access to the principal and that would be excluded. The trustee would likely also have the discretion to withhold income or principal if it was threatened to be diverted until such time as there was no threat.
