June 28, 2023 - Follow-up to this post
- Actors sent an open letter to SAG-AFTRA leadership indicating that they would rather strike than capitulate on AI demands including protecting future rights to their face and voice.
- The initial open letter had over 300 signatories, there are now over 1000.
- Notable new additions include Fran Drescher (who is part of leadership so LOL), Sarah Paulson (I know a lot of people were asking about her not being included in the first letter), Oscar winners Charlize Theron and Joaquin Phoenix, and Aubrey Plaza, Rooney Mara, Ewan MacGregor and more
- With big names showing their willingness to protest the studios are now asking for a negotiating extension until July 7
- Meanwhile the WGA has been striking since May 2
