Amy Pascal on workers for ‘ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE’ who felt demoralized about revising final renders 5 times - “If the story isn’t right, you have to keep going until it is.”

“I guess, Welcome to making a movie.”

Idk the full details but this is a bit meh. This tea just reads like a glassdoor review by disgruntled employees. I mean, were the folks working more than 8hr shifts paid/paid overtime? If yes, then I'm not sure what the problem is. Many industries and people work more than 8hr shifts. As long as they're getting paid, long working hours do not automatically mean "poor working conditions". Also, I'm not in the industry, but is it normal to have a staff of 100 people and expect all of their designs and work to make it?

I don't think there is any valid reason for anyone to work eleven hours a day, paid or not. That's half your day, sleep takes 7-8 hours of the rest if you're lucky. That gives you zero work/life balance.

Yeah if one of my jobs made me work 11 hour shifts 7 days a week I'd be out....even with overtime. Fuck that.

1000%, there isn't enough money in the world you could offer me to work that much. It is very "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" America tho.

Some people like to work. My view is, as long as it's your choice, you're getting paid, do it.

No one likes to work. We're built to be active and productive, and some people are lucky to find work that doesn't exhaust them, but there are limits to everything. Your view needs rethinking.

I guess. I mean, I like to work. I love doing overtime because I get to get paid more. If I didn't, I wouldn't. If I was forced to or didn't have the privilege to choose, I would lowkey try to find something else. But I see your point. It's not much work but like feeling productive.

I'm genuinely happy you have a job you don't mind doing overtime and getting paid for because so many people are miserable at their jobs. Sometimes when I take time off I'm antsy and bothered and can't relax and think I should've just gone to work, but I really believe it's a conditioning that happens especially when you've been working since you're a teenager. For many people their work is their life and it's really unfortunate.

Right. Like at this point how many people going "Oh, I love to work!" have been conditioned by capitalism to say "rest is bad, productivity gives me worth in the eyes of other people" instead of the inherent value of people simply by being people

Some people do like to work but I doubt this was a "hey! come in for some Overtime if you want it! Work 2 extra days if you feel like it!"

It was probably more "work these hours, get it done or get fired"

is it *really* a choice, or is the cost of living so prohibitive for everyone that they're working to avoid the alternative, homelessness under harsh and unsupportive conditions with no real safety nets in place. everyone has bills to pay, no matter how much they love their job. the only ppl who work for fun are already rich

it is genuinely weird to me that people think individual styles have anything to do with structural demands. who cares if you like ruining your health? your company doesn't care if you like it or not, but they will use you as a bludgeon for others. should your co-worker be pressured into doing it because you do? should your co-worker be washed out of an industry they love because some of you are fine with the exploitation of labor in capitalism?

Homelessness, starvation and being black balled from the industry are strong motivators but a lillll bit coercive, no? Not exactly a “choice”.
