Amy Pascal on workers for ‘ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE’ who felt demoralized about revising final renders 5 times - “If the story isn’t right, you have to keep going until it is.”

“I guess, Welcome to making a movie.”

  • More than 100 people quit the project because everything got changed, and a lot of their work didn't survive (read Stephen's section)
  • Remember, while not as bad as New Mutants, Across The Spider-Verse (ATSV) was meant to debut in April 2022, then October 2022, and then its final release date of June 2023.
  • Animators hired in April 2021 sat idle for 3 to 6 months while Lord tinkered in the layout stage, and this delay meant they had to work 11+ hours a day, 7 days a week, for more than a year.
  • Had to revise work during the final rendering stage.
  • The director trio was allegedly overshadowed by Lord, who wanted final approval for every sequence in the film, also that editorial changes from the directors, execs, Miller, and the studio were also to blame.
  • Amy Pascal ("Why r u punishing me" fame), produced Into and Across, saying it's not surprising 100 people dropped out of the admittedly grueling schedule, and there were over a thousand artists and techs working on it.

The long-standing rumor was that ATSV and its sequel, Beyond the Spider-Verse was worked on simultaniously. The first anonymous person ("Stephen") says that BTSV is def. not coming out on its predicted release date of March 2024 (also; Hailee Steinfeld has allegedly, as of early June 2023, not even done voice work for Gwen Stacy for "Beyond")

"Charlie" says it wasn't the multiple styles that beat them down, it was the writing, and how Phil (Lord) didn't know what he wanted and was scattered.

"Elliott" says there was similar, but not as severe, crazy management on Lord and Miller's 2021 movie "The Mitchells vs The Machines", by people who worked on both that and Into the Spider-Verse.
