I really loved that they brought it back to highlight the Tony nominees. Yes, the cynical part of me is pointing out that LMM directly benefits from having NYNY featured, but I’m choosing to focus on how great it is to celebrate this season of shows, especially when so many of them are struggling to find an audience.
Also, I feel robbed that the ITW‘s performance was so short.
I know that LMM is problematic but his love for the theater community seems very genuine. I don't think he did this whole series to sneak in some publicity for NY, NY. I mean, let's be real - he could have done a one-off Ham4Ham just for NY, NY. I think he included all of these other shows because, like many theater people, he sincerely loves the theater and wants the theater community to thrive.
What is problematic about LMM other than that he is an overenthusiastic person who is like everywhere in musically-related films? (And that's not problematic just annoying to some.)
Haha no, I agree, it’s the one thing I can never fault him for. Like I thought it was sweet he did shoutouts for Helen Park and Linedy Genao for no real reason other than to encourage them to stay in the industry.
