Tik tok user "theservicespaniel" has a made a video accusing actress Sydney Sweeney of putting a fake service animal vest around her dog so she can take it wherever she wants. This is a common and despicable thing to do as it takes away trust and options for people who really do need service dogs

To be fair, this doesn’t just apply to celebrities. I know a lot of people who got their dog certified as a service dog just because they’re entitled and want to be able to bring their dog everywhere.

Yes! Working in malibu it was nuts every dog was a service dog yet would jump on people and go to the bathroom inside 🤦🏻‍♀️

Businesses and government establishments have the legal right to ask someone to leave if their dog is behaving in that manner!

Lol that does make me feel better! I do know a few though who had their dogs do the training just to keep them as pets and only say it’s a service dog when they want.

Thank you! I work somewhere where we get a ton of "service animals" and as one of two people that have to check - it drives me crazy when someone's all "here's their certification!!1!". Good for you, it's not a real thing and I am only legally allowed to ask you two questions which you can bullshit your way through and now I have to let your dog in and hope it doesn't go apeshit when several loud noises happen.

A service dog or an emotional support animal? There's a big difference and I think it takes a lot more to get a dog registered as a service dog. Emotional support animals are super easy to have done.

Tbh I’ve only known people who have done it shadily so idk how it actually works. I know some people who had their dogs go through training though even though it’s just gonna be their pet.

the two methods I’m aware of are reaching out to organizations that train service animals for either specific tasks/types of disabilities (I.e., an organization might focus on training guide dogs for blind individuals, while another focuses on training dogs for medical alert, etc.) or in general OR training your own guide dog (sometimes with support from dog trainers and/or organizations, sometimes completely solo). at the end of the day, there is no universal standard or registration process, but if you need a service dog for an actual disability, they need to perform at a high level or they will not meet your needs. for people who need service dogs, it’s a matter of life or death. a dog that keeps you out of traffic or pulls you into the path of a car because it saw a squirrel. basically, when it comes down to it, will the dog act like a trained assistant, basically an employee, or a dog when the vest goes on
