Shame this is just for Facebook and not Instagram or WhatsApp as well.

The irony is that Facebook chose Ireland for its lack of follow up when it comes to GDPR complains and Ireland didn’t actually want to fine them but they were forced by other entities and now the country that didn’t even want to charge them, may end up receiving over 1 billion bucks 😵‍💫

I see this being back in court for yet another few years

Also, the same could be applied to Google, Microsoft et Al

Ireland was forced to collect taxes from Apple a few years ago and still hasn’t got the money yet if I remember correctly

I get so jealous of Europe and how they protect workers and privacy rights. Granted, this is just me seeing this all play out in the news so I dont know how it is day to day but the governments do seem to work more for their constituents than lobbyists?? what a world.

Not an expert but I see one of those issues in the US basically being a two party system. Easy to turn into crazy „fan boys“. Also the republicans are so fucked, they are not even thinking about their citizens as a whole. They don’t know how to make compromises or to work FOR the people. Side A asks for something, Side B just votes against it out of spite even though a compromise would maybe work for ALL people. That’s why we have like 5+ parties and they need to work together to even get a majority

Yep and the worst is that nothing is clearly defined in practice (not just on paper). I have to deal with DPOs a lot and their usual answer is „oh this could be illegal, better stop doing it“ what could happen? „Oh we don’t know but better don’t do it“ so what should we do instead? „Well THAT is not my job“
