Decided to move to Los Angeles when it become too expensive to live in London (damn! even Emily Browning can't afford London.)
Can these ladies please stop lying? I live in London and it’s much cheaper than NYC or LA. Rent wise and grocery and restaurant wise. You won’t find $20 erewhon smoothies here, and I’m relatively stingy but even I can afford to eat out here. Like it just isn’t true lol Just say you wanted to be closer to the industry no one will think you’re a sell out you just moved for your job lol
London’s food is indeed much cheaper than a ton of places in America (although prices have increased a lot). Rent is comparable to US mid-level locations in the outer boroughs. Insurance and health are much cheaper, but energy costs are absolutely insane. So it may balance out, unless you’re living in Central, which surpasses LA and is prob only comparable to SF/NYC.
I think it can also depend on where you're living. Most people describe anything between Santa Barbara and San Diego as Los Angeles. Beverly Hills is expensive but you can live further out for less money. And not everyone eats at ridiculously expensive places. There are still chain restaurants, mom and pop restaurants, regular grocery stores, etc. Not everyone gets their food at Erewhon, Whole Foods, and the latest expensive restaurant.
One of my cousins lives in Beverly Hills because it's close to where she works. Another cousin lives out in Culver City because she's a grad student and needs a place with more affordable rent. I'm not saying LA is cheap, but there are plenty of people who live there who aren't rich celebrities with money to burn.
She's an actress, it's not a steady job, she said she did some projects to be able to pay rent. I don't see why it is so difficult to believe that at some point living in London seemed not possible for her anymore. 🙄
I literally said she could’ve just said she moved for work but it’s not true that London is more expensive to LA read the whole thing before you repeat what I said
i think in her case travel would also probably factor in. idk if she's a big enough name to get travel to LA comped for things like in-person auditions/chemistry tests or whatever, so being closer to where she's trying to get work might make more sense fiscally
