https://instagram.com/p/CqA8a4SLopw Emily Browning sat down with Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen to do her first podcast interview on "Broad Ideas" available on Amazon Music.
-Grew up in Melbourne, Australia. Moved to London at 21 and stayed until about ten years ago. Hated America before she moved here because she only experienced West Hollywood/Beverly Hills when doing press and it wasn't her vibe. Decided to move to Los Angeles when it become too expensive to live in London (damn! even Emily Browning can't afford London.) Found the east side and fell in love with the city.
-Wants kids, was expecting to be a young mother like her parents, but now she finds herself at 34 with no kids and is starting to realize that if she wants kids she kind of need to do it now. Says the kids talk is a weekly convo with her therapist.
-Said she's one of the lucky actresses who was never told to lose weight. Her worst experience with that is when a 60 year old male director patted her belly when she was 8 years old and said "looks like someone had too much Christmas pudding."
-Turned down a cover of Maxim to promote Sucker Punch. Says she is fine doing nude scenes in movies because in her mind it's not her body it's her character's body, but a Maxim cover would be her own body. Emily says when she was 20 everyone wanted her to get naked, but nobody asks her today.
-Rachel Bilson says she remembers when Sucker Punch was being cast everybody wanted that movie, including herself (Rachel) as a young working actress.
-Emily still has fond memories of Sucker Punch, says making the movie with a group of young women who she still loves to this day was life changing. They trained for three months before the movie and Emily says weight lifting and dead lifting made her feel so powerful that it was the time in her life where she cared what she looked like the least because she felt so powerful.
-Says she took some jobs to pay her rent. Thought they were bad projects, but doesn't regret them because she says they paid her bills when she needed it. The only project she says it may have been better to have been broke over was the one where it was made very clear to her that she was only there to looks cute. She wouldn't name names, but when she was younger she openly hated on her movie Pompeii, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
-The pandemic forced her to slow down, she ended up going to Arizona for sixty days in-treatment for her depression. Before the pandemic she says she worked so hard and put all of her energy into her work and then would come home exhausted and depressed but wouldn't tell anyone because she's a people pleaser. Her long time boyfriend gently telling her that he couldn't give her what she needed is what made her realize she wasn't functioning and needed help. Medication, working out, therapy, and lots of time with her dog are the tools she uses to feel okay.
-Took a five year break from instagram, was too obsessed with it. Only went back on it to promote her show "Class of 07". The new tv show was a risk for her because it was her first time doing comedy. She needed the challenge and the danger of falling in front of her face in front of everyone.
-Says she mostly moves though the world anonymously since she's not super famous, but when fans do recognize her she always clenches up and feels awkward. Doesn't like when people do that "what do I know you from?" game. Says they should IMBD it themselves.
-Says her #1 career regret was getting the script for Winter's Bone and after reading about five pages she said "boring!" and tossed it aside.
-Brings up what she has always said about Twilight, wasn't offered the role but was offered the chance to audition, knowing that the author was interested in her. She says she read the book and didn't like it. She says it must be nice to have millions and millions of dollars like the stars do now, but she says the relentless hounding they went through during the peak twilight days were not worth it and she could not have handled it. Does not regret her decision to turn down the audition.
-Sandwiches are her favorite food group. Favorite sandwich- Freshly made focaccia, caramelized tomato jam, arugula with lemon juice, burrata.
Who else binged "Class of 07"?
