Not gonna lie, I am genuinely disappointed that voters did not spread the wealth among the many deserving nominees this year - none of my faves won a damn thing. But I loved a lot of these movies immensely, and am glad they were nominated! I'm also glad I got to see some of the campaigning they did - Q&A's, screenings, etc - because that's very fun for me. And I imagine many of these filmmakers and writers and actors will be back in the coming years.

EEAAO basically swept the above-the-line and All Quiet the below-the-line awards so not much room for anyone else. Usually, not a fan of sweeps but the EEAAO crew is so likable it’s hard to be mad at them.

Yep it only missed 3 (score, song, and costume design). Except for Jamie (should've been Stephanie) I was fine with the sweep. Especially screenplay cause it was really original for what the Academy usual go for.

I hope Cate blanchett, that random other white lady, and all other white women rooting for that random white lady, are seething.

Michelle didn't look too happy when the camera was on her.

it's better for austin's career that he didn't win. same for cate

basically. austin basically would've started walking the path that rami malek is walking now, instead he's got the nom, his movie was a hit, people pretty much like him and is an "it" boy they can make into a movie star. cate will eventually win her third. she's cate blanchett, she's gonna get work until the day she dies.

yep. brie larson won too early too

and cate's going to get a million more opportunities to make prestige drama films. and hopefully ones that are actually commercially successful so ppl aren't like '......'

... except Austin is white, so it was probably always gonna be harder for Rami to land roles, even though he won.

insane that All Quiet was winning for like a straight hour when they could have spread the love there. Fabelmans for production design, Babylon for score, Elvis for cinematography. the haters instinct will be to blame EEAAO, but the Oscars falling for war movies starring white dudes. a love story for the ages.

At least All Quiet is anti-war and about WW1 which doesn't get as much attention despite how horrific it was. The score was one of the best things about it so I'm not mad at that win.

for being an anti war movie it's strangely war-porn ish.

I didn't like that it erased the character-based moments of the book which are key to it being an important story in favor of more violence but idk if I'd describe it as war porn. That to me is more along the lines of Saving Private Ryan. All Quiet felt like a horror film.
