They absolutely should, that garbage ramen head, too. Her career essentially came to a stop because of that. I cannot imagine how violated I would feel to have something like that happen to me, and then essentially have the entire country demonizing you because of something you didn't do? Like, the response was wild and you know it would have been completely different had she been a white performer.

Janet was banned and JT was allowed to show up at the Grammys the very next weekend! Like the f!!!

The reaction she got was completely unjustifiable and racism was definitely a major factor, but wasn’t the whole thing planned? She had her nipple covered, they revealed her breast right when Justin sang “I'll have you naked by the end of this song…”…

It was a like a response to the Britney/Madonna kiss at the VMAs, but it backfired because people were racist, Justin threw her under the bus, not the same kind of audience, etc

The move was clearly choreographed but personally I'm not 100% convinced as much of the costume was supposed to come off as did. In the moments immediately after, before she could possibly have any sense of the reaction, she looked kinda shocked.

(But then, to argue with myself, I also don't see how from what the costume looked like that it could have come apart any other way)

I love Janet but iirc she has always said the top leather piece was what Justin was supposed to pull off while the red piece stayed behind. If you look at pictures from the moment the piece Justin has in his hand the red part is just some ruffle at the top and not a full piece. So it’s seems planned but she still didn’t deserve what she got and Justin still ain’t shit for the way he left her in the dust when the heat got too hot for him. He continued to make jokes about it years later while her career never recovered. The fact that he opened his own super bowl with the song he was performing with Janet during the original show… this is just a joke to him to use to his benefit like everything else.

Janet didn't deserve any of this and JT is scum anyway, but I think that in the long term, the outcome has been worse for JT than for Janet (and rightfully so). Black producers, songriter and musicians weren't as eager to let him leach on black culture, collaborations to give him cross over appeal got sparse. Now, while Janet is an icon, JT is just mayo of the woods and I love every second of it.
