People have been so mean to her regarding her weight, her appearance and her intelligence for so long. I really hope that she’s okay.

same..I read her book and she's intelligent. I think people didn't realize back in the day that she knew exactly what she was doing with the chicken by the sea comments.

The hate she got over this is still so weird to me. They make canned chicken, like…it’s not that crazy to think it was canned chicken from a farm by the sea or whatever lmao. The backlash was so OTT

right? It was just another reason to hate on a woman. I swear, its still toxic af for women now but the early 2000s were something else :(

Right? Like I didn’t even know Chicken of the Sea was a tuna brand until this mess, people are ridiculous

I mean, canned chicken has a different consistency and that’s probably why she asked - like maybe she went in thinking it was chicken and then ate it and was like, “Wait, WTF this tastes like tuna…”

Also just because people make money off stuff doesn’t mean they aren’t traumatized by it (see: the Olsen twins, Britney)

If you read Jessica’s book you would realize my comment was meant in a much broader context in terms of it being one example of an emotionally abusive dynamic between her and Nick and him allegedly letting her be the butt of the joke all the time, which did contribute to her trauma a lot.

Or maybe you wouldn’t. IDK. But this over-simplification of what I said is not it lol

ETA: And my comment about the Olsen twins and Britney had to do with not being happy in their respective careers but making money off of them and in that sense fans feeling entitled to their work

As someone not from the US I was confused as well cos the word "chicken" is on the can and I'd never heard of it before so I thought it was weird people thought it was SO STUPID! to not know it was actually tuna inside

Chicken of the Sea's jingle was literally "for the best tuna, it's Chicken of the Sea" and they exclusively sell seafood. as a lifelong tuna-sandwich-and-chips girl, tuna salad and chicken salad taste different. a cat is not gonna come running for a can of tinned chicken.

I truly have never heard the jingle even to this day so 😂 That’s not a popular brand of tuna in the South at all

YES. The public perception of the both of them following that show was so infuriating because on the flip-side, people would be like “Nick Lachley is actually really smart???” which like, okay guys, what’s the barometer for that statement lmao

She was eating it asking if it was chicken or tuna, right? If Nick Lachey had been doing it tell me you wouldn't be dragging his ass.

You’re not wrong but Nick, at least back then, struck me as the type of guy to compare certain parts of women to fish, so no excuse
