As a former choir kid, I agree. It's disappointing when singers are terrible live. If you know you need to be autotuned to sound good, then do my ears a favor and just lip sync.

I am okay with changing the key when singers get older or have vocal damage that affects their range.

I remember shortly after winning American Idol, Kelly Clarkson performed live at some awards show (maybe the VMAs?) and she flubbed a note that she can normally belt out with ease. I knew she had been performing nonstop and that it was vocal strain, so I felt bad for her because she clearly needed a break. That's a different story from some of the "musical artists" who are consistently flat.

I saw Kelly during her breakaway tour and she’s amazing live! I wouldn’t mind seeing her again even if I haven’t listen to any of her recent music tbh

I'm jealous! I would love to see her live, especially during that era.

I didn't care about her missing one note at the tv performance because to me that was like an athlete having an injury. She sang live every week on AI so I knew she could sing and she clearly just needed some time off to rest her voice. i was more concerned about her schedule being so grueling that it caused this to happen.

If you get the chance I highly recommend seeing Kelly live

Her voice is somehow so much better in person it’s wild

Kelly delivers even when she doesn't. Her emotional performance after winning AI was all over the place (naturally, she was overwhelmed) and even then it was so beautiful. She's one of those artists who can absolutely miss notes and you know it's not an indicative of her ability bc she has already proven over and over that she's an amazing singer.

Carrie is obviously talking about the Katys, not the Kellys.

I agree about the key changes. I’ve seen many performers and if they need to change the key to keep their voice healthy, that’s fine. Even with younger performers I’m not bothered. Touring is exhausting and I’d rather a performer make that choice over pushing themselves and having to cancel the end of the tour because they’ve done too much damage with bad technique.

It pisses me off when singers record entire albums in a key they can't sing live. (see, Florence Welch and Adele)

lol I used to think that about Florence until I saw her live this year. She hit those high notes and sounded so much better than the videos I've seen of her performing live before!

To be fair to Florence she's consistently running, jumping, witch dancing, etc the entire time she's singing live so changing keys for her concerts makes sense, unlike someone like Mariah
