i honestly prefer just creating my own budget spreadsheet on excel. requires a bit more manual upkeep but the upside compared to budget apps is that i can tweak everything to my specific tastes. i created different tabs for various sinking funds, with conditional rules set to highlight when i was getting close to my goal amounts for each. other conditional rules set up to highlight when i was getting close to my self-imposed limits on certain luxuries (e.g. dining out).

When YNAB announced they were increasing their price someone on the YNAB reddit (maybe multiple now) had actually made spreadsheets that functioned similarly. I bet you could search and find them. idk if I could function without YNAB so I'm just dealing with the cost.

i use mint and also take advantage of the features my credit card has. FOr my joint cc with my wife, we sit down once a month and review all our expenses through the cc website. they give you a nice breakdown of type of expenses and by vendor... i would see if your bank has something similar
