What’s the issue with NC-17 ratings? Why appeal it?

an R-rated movie will bring in more money. if they lose the appeal they could decide to edit the movie to get an R-rating (which is usually what happens) or they could just keep it as is, like Blonde did.

Fewer theatres will play NC-17 movies and it's harder to recoup costs.

no one 17 and under is allowed to see it, even if you have a guardian present
