there could definitely be some miscommunication going on here so I want to point out a part of the post to make sure we’re on the same page

I think everyone else read that as a euphemism for blackout/severely drunk on a regular basis and so in your other comments that’s what it comes across as you’re defending, especially after you said “ considered normal to a lot of people here to go out getting pissed up every weekend.” Again, a euphemism so everyone’s interpretation is going to depend on their own experiences and in this context definitely could be the miscommunication at hand. I appreciate you explaining your perspective as well!

That being said I just want to further clarify that even if there was no miscommunication and we’re talking about the same thing, I don’t mean to imply any kind of judgement for not seeing eye to eye on it. It *is* the cultural/societal belief that it’s normal and ok, I just think that needs to be pushed back on when people do buy into it. It can be a really difficult conversation to have because again everyone’s coming from different perspectives and you never know if someone is struggling to accept their own dependence or a loved one’s. I hope my response didn’t come across aggressive or piling on.
