That’s an interesting story though. Was your adoptive grandmother good to your mom (her biological niece) at least? Or did she also treat her like she was cursed?

It sounds like your mom went through a lot in her life too. 💙

I guess I’m just perplexed because normally the issue would be the aunt was married and had an extramarital affair, but it sounds like just the dad was married??? So it’s odd to me that they wouldn’t let her keep the baby and just not interact with the father.

It’s a wild story regardless, it sucks tho that you guys still have questions that probably can’t be answered now.

Oh that tracks, I missed that she was a teenager at the time. Sucks that it seems like she wanted to keep your mom and wasn’t allowed to but at least it sounds like your mom had a good life regardless.

Idk about the rest of the world but babies were regularly removed from unmarried mothers here. Whether the mother wanted to keep them or not.

Damn, that is wild! Still common for the 60s, but phew. Did your mom have a relationship with her aunt/bio mom?

I have an on again off again friend who had a kid when we were in high school that her mom adopted as her own. All her siblings know that's her bio daughter except her bio daughter, but in her case, she wasn't pressured. She just wasn't ready to be a parent and her mom was like, what's another kid? 💁‍♀️ so she agreed to adopt her first grandchild as her kid. I always wonder how she's going to take it when she finds out her favorite sibling is her bio mom, who went on to have a few kids later on.

Just curious, any other deafness in your family? How did the family support your mom's language acquisition, was she kept at home, sent to deaf school, etc.

You, your mom and your aunt are superwomen.

my aunt didn't know her aunt was her bio mom until she was in her 50s. I think I knew before she did.
