They are a step forward for civil society and the Second Amendment," the actor said in a powerful speech Tuesday at the White House, adding that ( Read more... )

I was just watching a video about the Pulse shooting from a group in Orlando who were nearby from 2016 and....really, what has changed? Gun enthusiasts defending their "rights" with "Well, actually, it takes a lot of money nad permits to get a semi-automatic rifle" (yet it's still somehow too easy.)

It 100% is. I was just reading an article yesterday about that dude who walked into a hospital in Tulsa and killed 4 people. He did this with an AR-15 he bought THAT SAME FUCKING DAY. It took less than 24 hours for him to buy a weapon capable of shooting bullets in rapid succession and used it immediately.

I had a patient threaten to shoot me a few years ago; he told my colleague, “if i had a gun right now I’d shoot her.” we had to dismiss him from the practice, and had undercover police in the waiting room the day of his last scheduled appointment. It was incredibly disheartening and scary when i was 100% in the right; a lot of patients just have unrealistic expectations and lash out blaming the doctor for their ailments and years of neglect (which thanks American insurance companies).

I guess i feel lucky he didn’t think to go buy an ar-15 b/c clearly it would have been a piece of cake… sigh.

He was unhappy that it was taking many visits to restore his mouth even though I gave him a very clear timeline (which he signed and we reviewed each visit), and also stressed to him that his expectations were unrealistic and gave him other options for places to go if he was not happy with my care. Basically he destroyed his teeth and wanted it fixed like he was 18 years old in one visit for no money. What really sucks is the abusive patients are often the ones you go above and beyond for trying to accommodate them in your schedule.

Sadly, our non profit gets so many threats and so many docs / dentists I know have dealt with similar more than once. Between covid, student loans, lack of reimbursement from insurance, threatening patients, I feel like the US medical profession is going to have a serious shortage of healthcare providers soon.

Truly upsetting what happened to those Tulsa folks (and all the other craziness this year that I can’t wrap my mind around)…

it's sad that it's SO many mass shootings ago that it makes it feel even more distant a memory

I worked at Bass Pro in June 2016. 36 hours after Pulse, I'm in the pre-opening morning meeting and they're talking about how they had such a great day at the gun counter thanks to current events. I was disgusted.
