Do I remember some hubbub about this or was it just one negative review that stayed with me?

Every single one of the three women she followed was white.

IDK, I'm not sure why that's a valid critique of the book. Three Women was marketed as a look inside the sex lives of three modern American women, but Taddeo never claimed that this was a representative sample.

Modern America womanhood is not best represented by three white woman.

And considering it’s something the author literally had to put out a statement taking responsibility for I’m not sure what there is to argue at this point

IDK, I think the calls for making everything "diverse" or "representative" are leading white people who have no business trying to depict minorities doing so in really fucked up ways. IA with your comment that casting a Black actress to play a character who was originally white is problematic. To me, it's tantamount to diversity-washing. I'd be willing to bet they're not going to actually depict some of the sexual racism that a character like Sloane would face as a Black woman. TL:DR: I'm all for white women delving into the lives of white women. Because if we're not careful, we're gonna have a lot more dumb "race-blind" diversity-washing. Writing and casting minorities without actually depicting the complexity of their lived experiences.

I mean, take it up with the show runners who literally did blind race casting for this show based on a book about white women
