I didn't realize he was in this when I clicked on the first episode. As soon as he showed up on my screen, I immediately thought of ONTD and yelled, "Potato face!"

I really enjoyed Kasamatsu as a Yakuza. I did not know about this actor.
Honestly the American characters are not ... interesting ? And I cannot stand the American girl, I cringed so hard at all her sex scenes/romantic scenes. 0 chemistry with both actors.

I know the show is based on a book written by an American, but I found the two American characters to be the least interesting. Everyone else was far more interesting.

I was thinking about how easily they could have cut them from the show and they still would have had plenty of plot. I know they wouldn't actually do that since I'm guessing the author wouldn't be happy about being cut out of his own story, but still.

Was this any good? I’m thinking of watching this but if Ansel’s in it I doubt that’s the only questionable decision made here

The plot is very good. I cannot wait for the episodes to drop

The show overall is pretty decent. However, like the two users mentioned above, the Japanese characters are far more compelling than the 2 American characters

Also, the finally ended on a cliffhanger for pretty much everyone, so I really hope it gets a 2nd season

i realllly like the duality of the eng/japanese language on this show and how immersed the american guy/girl is in with the japanese culture . also impressed they're legit speaking japanese. ken watanabe is top tier as always

the show scratches my city pop nostalgia itch too even tho ive never been to japan lol

Another story about Japan where they shoehorn in unnecessary white people. I don't generally like this kind of thing but I heard it's good. Might try watching.

They didn’t shoehorn anyone in, the show is based on a memoir by a white American reporter who detailed his years living and working in Tokyo.
