Based on the true-crime memoir (Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan by Jake Adelstein), an American from the Midwest moved to Japan at 19 and ended up attaining a coveted position as a crime reporter for the The Yomiuri Shimbun, one of Tokyo's largest newspapers, in 1999. Taken under the wing of a veteran detective in the vice squad, he starts to explore the dark and dangerous world of the Japanese yakuza.
