I was part of the OG My Chemical Romance fandom (I guess? I was older than a lot of their fans when they started to get big, so I was never a psycho teen fan, lol) and this was a recurring thing with their fans. Whenever the band would take a break / stop touring, people lost their minds and I saw the "they owe us, what do they need a 'break' for, they're being lazy!" thing...a lot. Super weird.

I am also an OG My Chem fan but jesus fuck I guess I got lucky with the spaces I spent my time in because I never saw that D: We were usually concerned or excited. They toured like workhorses for years, they deserved every break they took (which really weren't many :/)

It doesn't surprise me though, those were probably the same people that were surprised when the breakup announcement happened. If you knew the band well enough up until that point it really didn't come as a shock :(

Yeah, that was part of what bothered me - they didn't take breaks often at all, so when they did, for there to be any amount of people complaining about it was just weird and annoying.

Lol, when they did their Danger Days tour I was like "whelp, this will probably be the last one," so I bought tickets as soon as they went on sale. They didn't hide the fact that they were tired and the end was coming, they just didn't explicitly state it, but still...wasn't a surprise.

My Chem have always had some of the most entitled fans, and it's sad that that shit has truly never changed. There's a reason my MCR group has stayed the same for over 15 years LMAO

DUDE RIGHT?! It was so very clear that that was the beginning of the end. No one ever talks about the fact that they all said they didn't want to do another concept album after TBP, and yet DD sort of developed into one, but because they weren't really feeling it, it was a lazy as fuck concept so nobody won in the end lol

They never said it, but it was just so obvious to anyone paying attention.

DD was a lazy concept, but tbh I still really loved it. I just think it was a good album coming from MCR, but would have been a GREAT album from any other band, you know? But that's also because anything following TBP was going to have a hard time standing up on its own. Planetary (GO!) and DESTROYA and Vampire Money all slap and there isn't a single song on the album that I don't enjoy tbh.

Yeah, I'm an OG fan as well. I'm kinda in spaces rn but only for news and stuff. My friends were not pissed at all when they took breaks back in the day because within like 4 years I was able to see them 6 times from different tours?? Like shit. They deserved those breaks +more.

I also was not shocked they broke up. I was out of fandom completely then, but still kept semi up to date about them. They were burnt out, Gerard wasn't sober and was struggling with mental health, they had kids, the album didn't preform as well as their previous. All these things added up, unfortunately.

I'm just legit stoked for them that they're at a place where they feel comfortable to be together again, and that they've kinda fallen back in love with each other as friends. They had that time.

I only got into My Chem during quarantine and I have immediately distanced myself from the fandom. Not painting everyone with the same brush, but some of the people I've run into are insane. Gerard recently-ish talked about his poor mental health during the Danger Days tour and people were calling him ungrateful???

Oh yeah, things got pretty ugly toward the end of their original run. The band members didn't even seem like they were particularly happy anymore (I mean, clearly, they broke up) and the fandom was insane. I liked going to shows and I had a lot of online friends that were cool to chat about MCR stuff with, but there was a lot of toxicity in the fandom in general.

DD Era was when he developed an eating disorder and they were all basically checked out. They were *TIRED*.

TBH the rampant MCR fandom now are all a bunch of teenagers and stuff so that doesn't surprise me. The difference is they're experiencing My Chem in terms of nostalgia? I can't think of the word but I think you know what I mean lol The band isn't active really so they are only finding all of this old stuff out about them now obviously since they weren't around for all of this stuff back then.

That made no sense omg lol Basically these kids have romanticised the past.

Yeah it was insane back then. I was devastated when they broke up originally but I could never understand how people were angry at them when they were so clearly burned out on it. Like I love music and I love them, but musicians owe people nothing!

OG MCR fan too and I remember people lost their goddamn MINDS when Gerard went blond. They were SO mad at him. It was ridiculous.

Lol, out of all of the stupid things fans got mad about, that might be the most stupid.

And honestly, when it comes to stuff like TV, part of what makes a story good is *not* giving people what they want. Which of course makes certain fans lose their minds.

Fandom is getting so weird lately. There's the one insta I follow that is just like "I miss you" / "it's been hard waiting" every time their idol doesn't post in like 3 days. This person debuted in 2007. There's so much content out there if you want to see their face. Relax.

Some of the replies I see on posts from Kpop artists are just horrifying. I see a lot of iNetz fans pointing out that it's SEA Stans that are pinnacle weird (especially the young'uns - See: Seungri and Burning Sun), but even from the average person... that's just not right. Not that we're much better here - "Celebrities Read Thirst Tweets" is full-body cringe of the highest for me. I can't deal with that at all.
