Polanski and Depardieu in France, staying booked and busy, and they and Allen still treated like gods by nearly the entirety of the UK and European film community and the one walkout during a recent French Polanski film win, turned out to be a director who had groomed and victimized her young lead actor. But Americans are such prudes.
I remember when Match Point came out, he did an interview with a magazine where he said his films survive on the European market so thats def very relevant today

I have no comment on Allen. But, Polanski put in a guilty plea and fled prosecution after finding out the judge was going to reject the plea deal he was offered which is the big legal difference. Polanski was going away for 50 years instead of time served which was the original deal. He also won a libel case against vanity fair and had Mia farrow testify on his behalf having to do with a false confession of rape. Gerard early in his career strangely admitted to raping women though later denying it. About two years ago he was formally charged with the rape of a 22 year old dancer. I believe the case has been reopened twice and is still ongoing. These two men have actual legal charges of rape against them. One has Mia Farrow defending them even after he admitted to forcing himself on a 13 yrold child. The other had the case thrown out almost 30 years ago with no other complaints these are not the same.
I can honestly say, after decades of reading about these individual cases and seeing the nuances play out...I don't give a single shit about what you're writing here. Because what these guys did, you can wear yourself out trying to legally parse but there is absolutely no way on Earth you can sit there and tell me that morally what they did is okay or somehow so far back in the past that it doesn't matter. TL;DR: Spare me this argumentive bullshit.
