Belfast: Really didn't like this, which I know seems hard to imagine from the trailer. I won't get spoilery, but the cinematography is ugly, the storyline is weak as hell, there's no real point of view, and there's zero character development. That being said, the performances are fine and it's very watchable, so I expect a general audience will like it. But I will be disappointed as hell if this ends up winning Best Picture.
tick, tick... BOOM!: I will fully admit I am a theater kid at heart, so I realize that maybe this film will not appeal to everyone, but I absolutely loved it!! Andrew Garfield is incredible, and would easily be in the Best Actor convo if this wasn't a musical, and I hope he can get there anyway. Robin de Jesus is also fantastic! Everyone else is good, too, but no one else really has a big enough part to shine outside of the ensemble. The film is well-structured, and emotional without being manipulative.
