Yea, I saw his Hollywood Reporter interview too and was surprised by some of his comments about the vision for his material. which I have always found a little bland. However, this may have been due to network and streaming interference.

“I want to do in-your-face shit,” he says with his trademark bombast. “I want to sell to everybody - and if you don’t want to work with me, I’m not saying that you’re racist, but other people might.”

Though there are still more questions than answers, Barris has been busy staffing up (his Khalabo Ink Society is now at roughly 40 employees), signing artists and prepping his first collection of essays, which he’ll likely title This Is Basic Shit: Things We Know That We’re Shocked You Don’t.

I have absolutely no doubt he's dealt with a lot of racism over the course of his career but not every platform or network is the place for "in-your-face shit." Network TV and streamers like Netflix or Disney+ which both sell themselves as platforms for the whole family aren't going to go for that no matter who is doing the selling.
